I may have just killed it by making that little-known fact public, but their burgers are simply among the best in Pigeon Forge. The fries are just as tasty too! If you’re looking for a unique place to eat that offers a variety of foods you most likely have never tasted, then definitely check out the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille in Pigeon Forge, TN. Located off traffic light #7 in the heart of Pigeon Forge, the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille has a setting as unique as its menu. If the weather is nice, then sit out back in the garden area where you will find a water path surrounded by flowers and foliage. It’s as perfect for a date as it is for an entire family. The inside of the restaurant has a slightly rustic feel and is just as nice to dine in.

The menu, though, is what sets the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille apart from every other restaurant in Pigeon Forge, TN. The local favorite off the menu is the Chicken Reuben with homemade potato chips. If a chicken reuben sandwich sounds unappealing, don’t worry…it sounded awful when I first read it. After the waitress talked me into it as it being the favorite item on the menu, I haven’t looked back or even thought of ordering anything else! I’ve taken family & friends to the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille and they have had a variety of dishes and loved all of them. I’ve honestly never seen someone order something that didn’t make them point out how great it tasted!

If you want a unique meal at a unique restaurant, then the Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee is exactly what you’re looking for. This is one of the locals’ favorite spots for lunch…so come and see why!

Old Mill Pottery House Cafe & Grille

Carino’s Italian is known for their “country Italian” cuisine. The best way to describe this is “Italian without the snoot”. Instead of white, fancy tablecloths you’ll find wooden tables. People aren’t going to wear ties and you don’t have to worry about which fork to use. The locals never cared about that junk, so Carino’s is a nice fit for us!

Food
First up is the bread. When the waiter or waitress starts to pour the oil & herbs for dipping, make sure they swirl the bottle up really well before pouring…this gets the “good stuff” mixed in so you don’t slop the bread in bare oil.

As for the meal…I haven’t been a single time where someone complained about anything they have ordered. I will warn you that the lasagna and Carino’s Combo are absolutely huge. Come hungry if you plan on eating either of those! The food is reasonably priced…especially for the portions they give you.

Service
I would give Carino’s 5 stars, but they fall short when it comes to providing an “authentic” Italian experience. It’s hard to call it Italian when Russians are taking your order and Mexicans are cooking the meals. Granted, this isn’t the case all year long, but the summer months see a flux of Russians come in for work and many seem to get staffed at Restaurants around town. It may be a novelty to tourists, but it gets frustrating to locals when we see it year after year when it’s difficult to communicate in our own town. Don’t get me wrong, I have absolutely nothing against people from different countries and cultures, but when it impacts customer service and quality…that’s when it’s an issue. It comes down to a franchise or “big business” looking to increase their bottom line by hiring employees for as little as possible, which results in high turnover and varying experiences. I’ve experienced long wait times, incorrect orders, miscommunication, cold food, and other minor issues, but the food is usually worth the money and worth taking a chance if you’re in the mood for Italian.

Summary
If you need your Italian fix while visiting Pigeon Forge, TN then I highly suggest Johnny Carino’s. It’s arguably the best option of Italian restaurants in Pigeon Forge.

Now if you’re sitting there thinking, “Well DANG! That’s a meal in itself!”…you’re right! You can order just the vittles as an entire meal and you’ll leave waddling out. Just make sure you park at the lower end of the parking lot to make it easier to get to your car! If, on the other hand, you’d like to add a lil’ meat to your meal, then go for the “all u can eat” which includes your choice of southern fried chicken, fried catfish, or you can get a lil of both with some fried chicken and fried catfish fillets! To wash all of this down they will bring you a big ole’ mason jar (if you don’t know what a mason jar is…well…come and relax in the south for a bit) full of tea, lemonade, or Pepsi products. I highly suggest the sweet tea!

Huck Finn’s is owned by one of the nicest businessmen in Pigeon Forge and he has a great staff that will keep your plates full, your glasses filled to the rim, and your bellies stuffed! This is definitely the one place for southern-fried food in Pigeon Forge.

Huck Finn’s Catfish Chicken and Steaks

If you want the best breakfast in Pigeon Forge, then head to the Log Cabin Pancake House at the end of town. If you’re heading toward Gatlinburg, it’s at the very end of the strip on the left. They are open from 7am to 3pm every single day and they serve breakfast the entire time as well as a lunch buffet that is also delicious.

The Log Cabin Pancake House has been a local favorite since it opened in 1973. All of their pancakes are made from scratch with some recipes that you probably won’t find anywhere else. They do not use packaged foods, so everything is fresh with that southern, homemade flavor. The pancakes and breakfast are the heart of the Log Cabin Pancake House that keep people coming back, but the lunch buffet is incredibly good too. They also have homemade dessert (banana pudding, cobbler, etc) that is made fresh every day that is absolutely tasty.

Saturdays and Sundays are obviously the busiest days to come, but you can still get a table. They do their seating the old fashioned way….you form a line. You don’t put your name in if you have to wait on a table. You simply stand in line and they take you in when a table opens up. The wait is never too long, and the food is definitely worth waiting for!

If you want a great meal while experiencing a bit of history in Pigeon Forge, then stop at the Log Cabin Pancake House.

The Alamo Steakhouse in Pigeon Forge, Tennessee claims to be “The greatest restaurant in the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee,” but I have to disagree. It’s good and the atmosphere is a neat southwestern setting, but the prices outweigh the quality of the food. They serve steak, chicken, seafood, salads, and even some great-tasting hamburgers. It’s among one of the better places to eat in Pigeon Forge, TN…just be sure you’re ready to fork over around $18 for a salad, entree, and one side at dinner.

Insider Tips:

• Go at lunchtime. The entrees cost about half as much and you still get a decent portion.
• Go steak or burger. The steaks and burgers don’t get much better than this in town.

All in all the food is great. I wouldn’t spend their dinner prices on any of it, but I would definitely suggest the Alamo Steakhouse for lunch.
