Dolly Parton at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge

The 2013 Dolly Parton Homecoming Parade in Pigeon Forge, TN will be held on May 10 starting at 6 p.m. Dolly’s Homecoming Parade, or as us locals know it – the Dolly Parade, will travel along the Pigeon Forge parkway between traffic lights 3 through 6 and will feature over 100 different units including numerous marching bands, twirlers, cheer and dance teams, performers from various Pigeon Forge theaters, car clubs, and so much more! The star of the parade is none other than the grand marshal…Dolly Parton! The Dolly Parade is considered Dolly’s homecoming back to her hometown and she often makes surprise appearances the day after the parade at Dollywood in Pigeon Forge.

This parade is arguably one of the most anticipated and attended family events that is safe, fun, and FREE! If you’re looking for free things to do in Pigeon Forge then this is a great option. The children will experience clowns, animals, music and more that is sure to make them smile, clap, and jump for joy. Then you’ll jump for joy at the money you’re saving while keeping them entertained! You can also find all sorts of coupons for Pigeon Forge to keep the frugal fun going. If you find your children, spouse, or curious bystanders asking, “How old is Dolly Parton?” you can inform everyone of exactly what Dolly Parton’s age is…she was born January 19, 1946, which makes Dolly 67 years old….or young…depending on who you’re trying to flatter.

Insider Tip: The parade route fills up extremely fast with chairs and people well before the Dollywood Parade starts at 6. Either bring some cheep chairs and put them in a spot you want to “hold” or just sit out there with the family…bring a picnic-style lunch, games, and anything else you use to keep your kids happy and you sane. Better yet, if you are staying in a hotel with a road-side balcony between traffic light 3 through 6, you’ll have a GREAT view of the entire parade route. You won’t get the suckers and tootsie rolls that the people on the street get, but at least you’ll be able to use the bathroom any time you feel the need.

  1. My wife and I are from Western Pennsylvania and have attended the Dolly Parade numerous times. We both feel that it is a fun event and a great way to start off the summer vacation period. We make the trip to Pigeon Forge many times each summer and are season pass holders to Dollywood.

  2. I had a great time last year at the parade what a show. If there is anyone that hasn’t seen the show at the Miracla Theater yet I highly recomand it. You will be shock on what you see and the showman ship of the cast in this Great show. Once you see it you will went to come back again and again and tell all your friends to go and see this great show. I was there the frist week it open this year and saw the show 5 times. So I think this is one of the theater you should mark to go see.

We have been going to Pigeon Forge/Gatlinburg for years and each time it gets better… My husband and I have been Dollywood passholders for a few years and we enjoy going and seeing all the shows and other activities during the year. We especially enjoy the Christmas season at Dollywood with all the decorations and shows…..
One of the highlights is seeing Dolly in the parade each year and also inside Dollywood. She is such an uplifting person and we throughly enjoy seeing her. There are so many things to do while in that area and since we live approximately 3 hours from there, we come as often as we can. We have taken our relatives from Maui and Oregon and they loved the area and when they come back this year, we will probably bring them again…..

  10. This is just an absolutely wodfnreul interview and story. Growing up and living in a remote and isolated area of Quebec I can truly identify with her story.I have been developing and implementing promotional projects for literacy on our territory and across Quebec for the past 30 years. The latest being Show me the Way’. Its goals are To put in place activities that will awaken the desire for reading and writing in children at an early age To strenghten children’s early reading skills To increase parents’ participation as partners in their children’s early literacy education’. Dolly’s project is amazing and is a perfect fit with ours. Can I use this interview to promote her idea and implement it in our projeact? Is there a way to get in touch with the organizers and/or her project promoters in Canada?
