We saved and scrimped and saved some more for a dream vacation in Pigeon Forge. We are not wealthy people, so it was so exciting when we were finally on our way!
Nobody warned us of the "rodrun". My "vacation" was one of the very worst weekends I have ever spent anywhere!
The sound of very loud motors was everywhere. The people were rude and loud. It took us 2.5 hours to go 1.5 miles. The stores all chose to say that their restrooms were out of service. The people at our hotel were very extremely rude, and their stock answer was, "well, it's the rod run!".

I am to assume that because "It's the rod run", that I am supposed to be constantly bombarded by loud obnoxious noise, I cannot park close to the hotel because people have chosen top take up 2 parking spaces to protect their old cars, and I cannot go anywhere because it takes hours to go?

Pigeon Forge has always been a lovely, stressfree trip for us. It feels like Hell now. Needless to say, we won't be back.

You should try living here during a rod run! :D

Seriously though, I wouldn't judge Pigeon Forge based off of one weekend. It's posted in many areas on this site that there are three major weekends to not visit if you don't enjoy car shows.....during the Spring Grand Rod Run, Shades of the Past, and Fall Grand Rod Run. Typically those are the middle of April, and then usually the 1st and 3rd weekend in September. The 2008 Pigeon Forge car show schedule (http://www.insidepigeonforge.com/car-shows/pigeon-forge-car-show-schedule/) is posted here for everyone to see...this is great for those that love car shows as well as hate them.

I understand your frustration and I hope others can learn from your experience and make sure they know what events are taking place in the town they plan to visit no matter where it is. It's just like visiting Daytona during a NASCAR race or bike week. It's a pain if you're not into any of that. I hope you reconsider visiting the area during a better weekend...there are a lot of great things to see and do!
