Is this place just to ski? Would my children like it?

Ober Gatlinburg has several things to offer. There is indoor ice skating, food vendors, and shopping. Outdoors, there is skiing and snowboarding with equipment rental if you don't have your own. For the beginners (adults and kids alike), there is an area where the tow rope can pull you up a very small rise and you can play or practice skiing or boarding down. If spectating is more your speed, there are bleachers for that also (no charge).

Ober is also open when the snow is long gone. You still have the indoor ice skating, but there is also an outdoor luge ride for all ages. It's about two years since I went up to Ober, but that is what I remember being there.

How to get to Ober? You can always park down in Gatlinburg and pay to ride the tram up. If you like heights, this is fun. You can also drive up Ski Mountain (weather permitting.) There is ample parking at Ober (free I think), but if it is a popular day to be there, parking may be scarce and you'll have to drive back down and park in town.

While in Tennessee, check out Cades Cove. Beautiful in Spring. Weekend traffic gets a bit congested, but be patient and enjoy. Word of warning....stay away from the bear. All wildlife is WILD. Many times I've seen visitors getting too close to the bear, deer, wolves just for a photo op. Since so many people visit this 11 mile loop, the wildlife is not as afraid of man as it normally should be. They will venture close to man, but they are still deadly.
