Flying Horse Grill in Pigeon Forge TN

*****

If you’re looking for the best place to eat in Pigeon Forge, TN and want a restaurant or dining experience that you can’t find back home, then you’ll definitely want to visit the Flying Horse Grill. Located on the north end of the Parkway beside the Inn at Christmas Place , the Flying Horse Grill is a one-of-a-kind restaurant with both a theme and menu items found nowhere else.

The theme of the Flying Horse Grill in Pigeon Forge, TN is based off of the design, experience, and wonderment found in carousels. Throughout the restaurant there is a carousel theme everywhere you look. The music that plays has a nostalgic feel, while in the corner of the restaurant is the centerpiece that is sure to delight children and remind the parents, grandparents, etc of the times when they were once children. It is a fully-working carousel made in Sernagalia, Italy by the Bertazzon Company in the traditional Venetian style. It features 550 lights, 17 leaping horses, 2 rocking horses, a rocking chariot, and a spinning teacup. On the front of the restaurant menu it reads:

“Remember the carousel? Picking out the best horse, holding on tight while the music started, and waving as the world spun by in a flash.

…We invite you to remember the charm of bright lights and carefree days on our Flying Horse Carousel.”

The carousel is incredibly charming, fun, and definitely something the entire family will enjoy. But we know what you’re thinking….what about the food?! Well, if there’s anything that can top the experience, it’s the menu…and oh what a menu it is. Here are just a few of the highlights:

Maui Chicken Salad (shown below): The menu tries to do this dish justice by calling it “An island-fresh pineapple half topped with homemade chicken salad full of fresh celery, juicy grapes, and honey toasted pecans.” This is absolutely amazing! Words barely come close to describing how it tastes. This was ordered at our table and so much moaning was going on that someone that didn’t even like chicken salad decided to try a bite of it and was blown away! The blend of chicken salad, pecans, pineapple, and grapes just drench the senses…absolutely amazing and something you won’t find anywhere else.

10 Layer Towering Lasagna: The menu describes it as “An architectural marvel, our veggie-patch lasagna is a built with rich ricotta cheese and a tender medley of carrots, spinach, zucchini, and a yellow summer squash. Slow-simmered marinara and a thick layer of mozzarella cheese top off this irresistible Italian rendition.” Now when I read this, all I could think of was “ew…a vegetarian lasagna?!” I wasn’t sure how it would taste without meat, but wow oh wow. It has a sweet and unique taste that makes you wonder why meat was ever put in lasagna in the first place! This is absolutely the best lasagna you will most likely ever have. Seriously. It’s that good.

If there’s any advice at all to take with you, just be aware that the portions are massive. You could split most of the items on the menu or simply take your leftovers back to your room and have another meal later. Whatever you do, save room for dessert!! Why? Here are two reasons:

Mini Indulgence: A small rack is brought out with a few of the chef’s choice desserts. When we were there, they had Chocolate Mousse, Key Lime, some type of vanilla, and a couple others. These desserts are just the right size, yet packed with flavor. You simply choose whichever one you want…or you can buy them all if you have the room left! They run $2.75 each and one is a great treat and plenty for one person.

Ultimate Hot Fudge Sundae: The main attraction in desserts, though, is the Flying Horse Grill Ultimate Hot Fudge Sundae. The presentation of this thing will undoubtedly beat any sundae you have ever seen! The ice cream is on the inside of a large glass while the fudge and nuts cover the outside! It’s as much fun to eat as it is to watch someone eat it! Most of all, it tastes great!

The Flying Horse Grill opened in the spring of 2008. We’ve come across some mixed reviews across the internet that popped up during the first few weeks of them being open. With this being a completely new establishment (no chain restaurant) with a unique menu, it takes a bit of time to work out the kinks and pull it up to the standards of the people who envisioned this new type of restaurant and original dishes. We have been consistently hearing better and better reviews every single day and can now 100% recommend the Flying Horse Grill as among the best restaurants in Pigeon Forge, Gatlinburg, and Sevierville. One of the comments that often pops up is the prices on the menu, which seem to be slightly on the higher end in the area. The portions of food, though, are among some of the biggest in the area, which means two people could easily split most meals. We heard of a lady who took her chicken pot pie leftovers home and made three meals out of it! Seriously, some of the portions could feed a small family!

If you’re planning to visit Pigeon Forge, TN then be sure to add the Flying Horse Grill to your list of places to eat. You’re going to love it…and you’re family & friends will love you for suggesting it! Discuss Flying Horse Grill in Pigeon Forge TN
  1. I have to say, i had the bacon wrapped shrimp and they were not just the average size shrimp,,,, they were jumbo and absolutely out of this world…… They had eight and most places just usually give you six…… Also, don’t forget to ask about buying a blueberry muffin if they have any extra to sell,,,,, Homemade and taste better than grandma’s!!!!!!I bought a few things from the unique gift shop and my kids loved the carousel ride,,it reminded me of my childhoods and how my Mom and Dad must have felt, seeing that huge smile and hearing my giggles as i waved every timed i passed by them…..Thank you Flying Horse……….. The waitress was also very good/. Treat yourself and your kids, and you know,,,, this is one restaurant, that when you leave you will feel your got your hard earned moneys worth…

  2. What business used to be in this location? I can’t remember.

We ate there our first night there and had breakfast there the morning we left. Excellent food and not crowded yet.

  3. My husband and I are actually in our cabin in Gatlinburg on vacation while I am typing this review. We decided to eat at the Flying Horse Grill earlier this evening. I did think that the appearance of this restaurant was very nice. However, my husband ordered the full Monte & I ordered your basic filet mignon. The steak that arrived was could not have been a filet because it was the worst cut of meat that I have seen in a long time. You couldn’t really even see the steak because of the fat on this cut of meat. I asked for my steak to be well done and it was really pink on the inside. I asked our server to just take the steak away because I was not able to eat it. The server was great to deal with and apologized for the mistake and the poor quality of the food. The server said she would need to go speak with her manager in regards to this. The manager walked right by our table with my steak in her hand and looked at us and kept walking. Not one time did the manager walk over to our table and apologize, offer to fix me a new steak or nothing. My husband finished his food and we paid our bill and left. We vacation in Pigeon Forge about 5 times a year. We will not return to this restaurant. I understand your food will not always be perfect but if you order a $22 steak you should be able to eat it.

  4. The portions are huge!!! The food was great and prepared perfect. Now…you can tell they are still new so if you have a bad experience…give them another shot. Having waited tables quite a bit in my past…the service was a little slow, but you could tell he was new and frantic and if you have waited on tables you know what I am talking about. The table next to us ordered salmon and it came to them undercooked. The manager was quick to get back to the table and offered to fix her something else or redo the salmon. She chose a redo…and it came back perfect. The waiter and the manager came back several times to check on her and they removed it from the check!! In my mind they did everything right. I really think they are just still working out the kinks of being new. Again warning the portions are huge. But enjoy b/c it is great! We will be going again.

  5. YEs, the protions are huge, but the prices aren’t so nice.
Ate there with my husband-$80 a night for 2 of us for an average food.Isn’t really worth it. That explains them not to be as busy as other places…Plus the service is too slow. Wouldn’t go there any more

  6. My husband and I ate there with my grandsons. The salad was nothing but a bed of lettuce that wasn’t even chopped up. It had very little of anything else on it. I had the sirloin steak and when it finally came it was fixed wrong. I sent it back and when they brought it back out, I hated the taste of it. The service was friendly but very slow. I will never return there to eat again.

  7. this is NOT the best place to eat in this area. i wll never go back again

  8. I will NEVER, EVER eat here again. I found a roach egg in my salad! End of story.

  9. We eat here every chance we can. The food is always wonder and the pot stickers are a must every visit. Service is always wonderful and we have no had a bad experience yet

  10. My family and I ate there several weeks ago during lunch time (it was a Monday). There were only a handful of couples/families in the place at the time. I thought the decor was very pleasant! I ordered the 1/2 sandwich (Chicken salad)and house salad combo. I must say that the chicken salad was the BEST chicken salad that I have ever eaten!!! That made the “1/2 sandwich” part a bad thing but the meal was good as a whole. Our waitress was really nice and quite helpful. The food seemed a little overpriced but everything is in that area. I would go back to eat again!

  11. My husband and I have been coming to the pigeon forge area for over 15 years and we recently ate at the Flying Horse.

We both had something different, I had the chicken pot pie and my husband had the siloin steak and we were both pleased with the food and the service we received. I would eat here again on my next visit.

  12. What exactly does a roach egg look like?

  13. My mother and I have mother daughter weekends in Tennessee a lot and this is our first stop to eat. We both love the Monte. It may sound a little different but the mix is just DELICIOUS! I would recommend trying this place and try the Monte if your not sure if its your thing, get the half Monte.

  14. LOVED IT!!!!! Best of Pigeon Forge hands down. I would recommend it to anyone and everyone!
