2008 Tax Free Weekend
The 2008 Tax Free Weekend in Tennessee takes place from Friday, April 25 through Sunday, April 27. This is a perfect time to visit Pigeon Forge, TN if you love to shop! Pigeon Forge has a ton of great outlet malls and stores to choose from. The most popular mall in the area is arguably Five Oaks Mall in Sevierville, TN. Five Oaks has plenty of great stores such as:

Clothing - $100 or less per item
School & Art Supplies - $100 or less per item
Computers - $1,500 per bundled package

is this tax free weekend only applicable in stores? or are online purchases also tax free?

According to the Tennessee Department of Revenue website:
So yes, if you place the order during that weekend and the retailer accepts the order by Sunday, April 27 at 11:59 p.m. then it will be tax free. The issue, obviously is that a retailer may not check online orders until Monday morning. I’d definitely suggest calling the retailer first to make sure they are aware of your order or just place the order over the phone.
