Discuss 2009 Tax Free Weekend in Tennessee
  1. I have never heard of a tax free weekend before but I think it is a terrific idea!

  2. is this tax free weekend only applicable in stores? or are online purchases also tax free?

  3. munia,

According to the Tennessee Department of Revenue website:

Mail, Telephone, E-mail, and Internet Orders Qualified items sold to purchasers by mail, telephone, e-mail, or Internet shall qualify for the sales tax exemption if the customer orders and pays for the item and the retailer accepts the order during the exemption period for immediate shipment, even if delivery is made after the exemption period.

So yes, if you place the order during that weekend and the retailer accepts the order by Sunday, April 27 at 11:59 p.m. then it will be tax free. The issue, obviously is that a retailer may not check online orders until Monday morning. I’d definitely suggest calling the retailer first to make sure they are aware of your order or just place the order over the phone.

  4. There is also another tax free weekend i heard of the first weekend in August….. which is Aug 1-3. That really helps with all the back to school clothing……..every penny counts now……..

  5. Does anyone know what the dates are in 2009 for tax free?

  6. I’m looking for the best book stores in the serville, piegon forge, and gatlinburgh areas. I’m looking for good prices with a good selection. Some of the stores I’ve been in cliam that they are outlets but, thier just as expensive as a major book store. Can you help me? Thanks Joy LaFary
